God is at the heart of our school

Class 3

Welcome to Class 3's page!

Mrs Preston and Mrs Power would like to welcome you to class 3!

We will be working hard to make your children feel safe and in happy in their classroom, whilst giving them lots of opportunities to learn new and exciting subjects!

If you would like to contact us or discuss any issues concerning your child's learning, please let us know!

Over the next few terms we will be revisiting topics that were unfortunately missed last year, but also filling gaps and moving your child's learning on. We hope to make sure every child continues to grow in confidence and after Christmas, we will be moving on to new learning.

We will cover History topics such as the Stone Age and The Romans. We will be learning all about skeletons and human muscles, rocks and the Earth's landscapes plus more in Science. There will be lots of lovely books that we will be using for our guided reading lessons, such as The Abominables, The Queen's nose and more!

We have plenty of fantastic writing opportunities to get those imaginations working too!

At St. Peter's we use White Rose Maths for our maths curriculum.

"Together, we’re building a whole new culture of deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths – a culture that produces strong, secure learning and real progress. No matter what their starting points, we help teachers and learners everywhere to achieve excellence."

This is the R.E overview for year 3. Please familiarise yourself with what we will be learning...

Talk for writing

At St. Peter's we use Talk for Writing. The Talk for Writing approach enables children to read and write independently for a variety of audiences and purposes within different subjects. A key feature is that children internalise the language structures needed to write through ‘talking the text’ as well as close reading. The approach moves from dependence towards independence with the teacher using shared and guided teaching to develop the ability in children to write creatively and powerfully.

Schools underpin their English work by establishing a core reading spine of quality fiction, poetry and non-fiction that all children experience and draw upon.

In our classroom, you will see lots of our learning on the 'washing line' and working walls.

In Year 3 we focus on the following topics:

Animals including Humans

Forces and Magnets

Important information:

  • PE- Mr Burgess will be teaching PE for the next few terms. PE will take place on Tuesday and Fridays. Please make sure your child has an indoor and outdoor kit.
  • Homework- Homework generally consists of a maths activity, weekly spellings (on paper and using Spelling Shed) and reading to an adult for at least ten minutes each evening. We would also like your child to practise times tables at home using the TTRockstars online game.
  • Reading should be taking place as much as possible and recorded in your child's reading record book. Please send a photo of this through Dojo each week.
  • Spelling lists will also be sent home via Dojo to practise on a Tuesday. The look, cover, write, check approach is a good strategy to embed spellings, or use Spelling Shed. A spelling test will be each Monday.
  • Maths tasks will be sent home via Dojo. This will follow on from what your child has been learning in the classroom and your support with this will benefit your child greatly.
  • Homework is due in on Wednesdays using your child's portfolio page on Dojo and will be checked weekly. Your child will be rewarded for completing all elements of their homework.

Please find your child's login details for any of the platforms we ask your child to use inside the front cover of their homework book. If you have any problems, please message us through Dojo and we will try to help.
