Class 3

Welcome to Class 3's page!

Mrs Preston and Mrs Power would like to welcome you to class 3!

We will be working hard to make your children feel safe and happy in their classroom, whilst giving them lots of opportunities to learn new and exciting subjects!

The classroom

In this first half term we will be covering The Vikings and Anglo Saxons in History which links nicely with our music lessons as we learn to sing like a Viking!

In Science we are learning about Forces and Magnets (See the knowledge organiser later on this page).

Other lessons, aside from the core subjects will include French and computing, plus in Design and Technology we will be looking at Pneumatic Toys - how exciting!

We have lots of great lessons instore for the next few weeks!

Class Photographs

Photos from lessons, activites and events will be posted here throughout the this space!wink

At St. Peter's we use White Rose Maths for our maths curriculum.

"Together, we’re building a whole new culture of deep understanding, confidence and competence in maths – a culture that produces strong, secure learning and real progress. No matter what their starting points, we help teachers and learners everywhere to achieve excellence."

Our current topic is Multiplication and Division, and this will continue in the next half term!

This is the R.E overview for year 3. Please familiarise yourself with what we will be learning...

Talk for writing

At St. Peter's we use Talk for Writing. The Talk for Writing approach enables children to read and write independently for a variety of audiences and purposes within different subjects. A key feature is that children internalise the language structures needed to write through ‘talking the text’ as well as close reading. The approach moves from dependence towards independence with the teacher using shared and guided teaching to develop the ability in children to write creatively and powerfully.

Schools underpin their English work by establishing a core reading spine of quality fiction, poetry and non-fiction that all children experience and draw upon.

In our classroom, you will see lots of our learning on the 'washing line' and working walls.

In Year 3 we focus on the following topics:

Animals including Humans

Forces and Magnets

Important information:

  • PE- Myself and Mr Burgess will be teaching PE on an alternate basis. PE will take place on Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate kit as specified in Mrs White's latest letter (23.8.21), thank you.
  • Homework- Homework  will be set and sent home on Friday afternoons and consists of a maths activity, TTRS and weekly spelling worksheets (see below about using Spelling Shed too!) Plus, we would like the children to be reading to an adult for at least ten minutes each evening. We will be awarding homework dojos accordingly.
  • Reading please record what your child has read with you in your child's reading record book. We will be asking to see the records on a weekly basis.
  • Spelling lists will be sent home via Dojo on a Tuesday. Games or assignments will be set on Spelling Shed and we will expect these to be completed as part of their weekly homework. We will be checking this site on a Wednesday morning on homework hand in day. Your child then has time to practise their words ready for our spelling test on the following Monday morning.
  • Maths tasks that we set for your child will be appropriate for their ability in that particular topic. The content will follow on from what your child has been learning in the classroom.
  • Homework is due in on Wednesdays. Please complete the work in the homework book, or stick in a completed sheet, and return this to class no later than Wednesday morning so that it can be marked. Your child will be rewarded with dojos for completing all elements of their homework, including the virtual platforms.

We will ensure that each child has their own login for the platforms mentioned above, along with Google Chrome. If you have any problems, please message us through Dojo and we will try to help.
