Welcome to Class 4!
Class Teachers: Mr Payne & Mrs Pagliari
Mrs Pagliari and I are pleased to welcome you to the Class 4 webpage. This year we are job sharing, so you'll fine Mrs Pagliari teaching on Wednesday afternoons and Thursdays, and me teaching Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Morning and Fridays. We are really excited to be sharing this wonderful class and have a very complimentary skillset, ensuring your children get fantastically rich experiences and a varied curriculum this year.
Our class reader for this half term is The Firework Maker's Daughter, a classic tale by celebrated author Philip Pullman. It's a magical adventure that all children dream of and will live long in the memory of anyone who enters Lila's (our heroine's) world.
'Lila dreams to become a firework maker, just like her father. In order to become a true firework maker, she sets off alone on a perilous journey to reach the terrifying Fire-Fiend. She travels through jungles alive with crocodiles, snakes, monkeys and pirates, and climbs up the scolding volcano. On finding the Fire-Fiend, she realised more is at stake the she ever imagined...'
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school throughout the week, as although PE is timetabled for Mondays, there may be additional opportunities throughout the week. Long hair must be tied back and earrings must be removed for health and safety reasons (or tape needs to be supplied for us to cover ears).
Swimming will take place every Thursday beginning September 5th. Children need their full swimming kit in school on this day, and will be leaving at the end of lunchtime to get to Hinckley Leisure Centre on time. Please make arrangements with staff if your children need goggles for swimming.
Your child needs to maintain the high standard of reading they partake in whilst at school, so please can all children be reading at home on a regular basis. They will be reading to an adult in school on a weekly basis, and will be provided with targets to accomplish at home to stretch and motivate them. I'm happy to supply any ideas of how to make reading with your children easier at home, and will be sharing these with you when I get to meet you all in. the. coming weeks.
Homework books will be provided to children when we start back, and we expect these to be treated in the same way that in-school exercise books are; presented beautifully, treated with care and completed to the best of your child's ability. Homework will consist of a compulsory maths task, with spelling practise also expected each week. Additional homework linking to RE or topic lessons may also be sent home. This is compulsory, and anybody that doesn't complete homework to the highest standard will receive a homework detention in school with Mrs White. Homework is due in on Wednesdays, but any children who submit homework on a Monday will receive Dojos for their organisation and effort.
Beaumanor Residential Trip
More information will be released soon about our 3 day residential trip to Beaumanor Hall. We have booked for April 22nd-24th 2020, and will be taking deposits during this first term following a letter home which will contain the details.
Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle so they can remain hydrated throughout the day. There is no need for pencil cases to be brought into school, as we have provided any equipment that may be needed across all of the subjects, and they tend to prove distracting in the classroom.
I look forward to meeting all of you throughout this term. If you need to speak to me, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and I will arrange a mutually convenient time.
Until Christmas, Year 4 will be working to understand the life of the Ancient Greeks. We are looking forwards to learning about the myths, the gods, the sports and the democracy (amongst many more!) and linking this to our writing!
